Early Savannah, Georgia "Black Folk Art" Quilt ! Great Southern Americana Item ! (Signed by maker - "W Y " ) (?) For consideration is this Early, Signed, "Black Folk Art" Quilt. Dating from the late 1800's to early 1900's, this presents itself as a great piece of Southern Americana. This early quilt was found in a rural area outside of Savannah, Georgia. Taking from family "cloth scraps", the maker used her imagination and talent as best she knew how. Notice how crudely , what appears to be the maker's initials. - "W Y" (?). (See last photo. ) As I am not an expert on quilt identification, this quilt may have a pattern name, but I do not know it. If someone does know, I would appreciate that information and would thank you ! Though the quilt has a few apologies as far as condition, it is nonetheless an example of an early, all hand sewn "Black Folk Art" and was quilted some time in the Mid-1800's. I have presented many pictures relative to the condition issues. Made from scraps of wool and applied to the quilt. The condition issues center around softness in this aged fabric, leading to separation of design pattern and significant staining on back. (Sold "as is/as found" condition.)
