Antique Victorian early stereoview photo of the death of a beloved pet bird. Lots going on in this 19th century hand colored stereo image. Three little girls and one boy sit overwelmed in deep sadness, as they feel the loss of the pigeon or conure parrot sized friend. No phoenix risng here.
Very interesting details include spaniel sized dog or hound at foot of table deceased tweety on ottoman also graphically hand colored. Super Victorian furnishings like a huge photo portrait, green velvet drapes with tassels, ornate couch, table, high back chair and colored rug and pillows. Bold yet primitive Victorian birdcage lays empty. A second smaller cage hangs from the ceiling with a very much glad to be above it all yellow canary. Looks like a Hendryx 1886 model with white milk glass feed seed water cups. What makes this very old slice of domestic life photography even more interesting to think of the artist who hand colored and augmented these old shots. Note the vibrant dresses on the mourners. Label afixed to card states Early Sorrow, They playmate is dad and that tenantless cage has stamped the first grief on memorys page. Rare pet post mortem. Tear Drop Memories offers fine Postmortem photography, rare funeral collectibles and interesting cemetery art and death related books.
