A rare antique art pottery red flambe vase by Howsons pottery . Richard Howson , cousin of William Howson Taylor of Ruskin pottery , set up his production in Stoke on Trent in 1911 it closed in 1916 so its wares are rare . He employed Edward Wilkes , who was a former employee of Bernard Moore , and he developed his flambe glazes . After its closure Edward Wilkes worked for Ruskin pottery for awhile and eventually set up his own art pottery works . This vase decorated in a gorgeous red flambe glaze over brown and probably by Edward Wilkes . It measures 120 mm / 4.75 inches in height and 90 mm / 3.5 inches in across the widest point . Marked as photo , with the unusual mark of a house over ON Howsons , and dated 1912 . In good used show condition it does have a firing fault and lines which you can be seen in the photo of the base , on the inside there is a very faint hairline which coincides with the line running central across the base and some very light crazing in places . I apologise for the photos because of the nature of the glaze it is a nightmare to photograph . A very interesting and rare antique art pottery vase . Thank you for looking .
