DESCRIPTION : This is an EXQUISITE & RARE sterling silver brooch ~ it was handwrought in Mexico, before 1948 , by renowned silver maestro, HORACIO DE LA PARRA. Maestro Parra owned Plateria Azteca and they produced mostly holloware. At one time, they were contracted to produce holloware for William Spratling and Hector Aguilar. Parra vintage jewelry is rare because not much of it was produced, so this is a fabulous find! This silver repousse brooch is masterfully crafted in a lovely timeless design that has a wonderful art nouveau look. It is designed in a wonderful organic motif of birds gatd on a tree limb. The tree is flowering and the centers of the flowers have white gemstones (that may be agate or jasper) with naturally occuring matrix. The lock portion of the pin clasp is missing, but the pin hooks securely and locks into the "C" clasp without the lock ~ it is totally secure when worn. This is a classically elegant and timeless Mexican vintage brooch ~ it is extremely well crafted and very unique ~ an early signed PARRA art-to-wear masterpiece ~ a must have for the serious collector of vintage Mexican silver! SIZE: Length is 2-3/4", width is 1-1/2", and weight is 9 grams. CONDITION : Excellent vintage condition ~ no dents/dings to the silver ~ no chips/cracks/breaks in white turquoise gemstones ~ no damage noted ~ just about PERFECT! HALLMARKS : "STERLING, PARRA, MEXICO". PARRA/HORACIO DE LA PARRA is shown on pages 132-133 of Bille Hougart's highly respected source book, The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks (2006 edition). Please note that t is no Eagle assay number assigned to Maestro Parra, indicating that all of his art-to-wear jewelry was crafted prior to 1948, when the Mexican government mandated the Eagle marking system for silver.
