Early Victorian Mahogany and Brass Bound Writing Slope C1860 This is a superior quality Early Victorian Brass bound Writing slope in solid Mahogany and having both an exterior drawer and three secret drawers to the inside. Its substantial dimensions are: 20 x 10.5 x 7.5 inches approximately. In excellent condition throughout, the interior boasts the standard arrangement of pen, nib lids and stamp slope along with a writing area that has been releatd in Green with a Gold tooled border.The refitting has been professionally and properly done using a fabric 'hinged' strip beneath the leather to protect the vulnerable area w the two halves of the slope meet. The superior quality of this slope is immediately evident by reference to the 'bits you dont see' with the slope boards and document areas below being constructed using a fantastic figured Mahogany. The quality is further apparent by examination of the secret drawers, which are revealed by the usual method of lifting the divider between the inkwell and stamp slope sections. Conventionally between 3/4 and 7/8 inches in height the drawers in this slope are an impressive 1 and 1/4 inches high, a highly unusual feature and indicative of quality. The original brass L shaped hinges are both intact and in good order and two quality replacement screw top inkwells have been added to complete read more
