THIS IS ONE OF THE FINEST EARLY VICTORIAN PIECES BEING OFFERED ANYW!!! With our compliments we are delighted to present you with this fabulous very early Victorian period walnut desk. This desk (often called a library or sofa table) is signed by âeoeE.S. Kibbe Hartford , Conn. âe in the bottom panel of its drawer. The Kibbe family is a name deeply connected in western, Massachusetts and Connecticut history. The familyâe(tm)s fortune was made in the chocolate business. Kibbe Chocolatesâe(tm) was a large New England business during the mid 19 th to the early 20 th century. E.S. Kibbe chose a different course becoming a noted Hartford , Connecticut glass plate photographer and a well documented figure in 19 th Century history. We will be offering many other treasures from the Kibbe family over the next several months. This super fine walnut Victorian desk has just been professionally cleaned, French polished and had a new leather top installed by the restoration shop of Derek Miller. The original finish remains untouched. This wonderful Victorian relic is made of the finest black walnut with burled walnut panels present throughout this entire piece. Each side has wonderful designs and scrolled carvings with a finely detailed center stretcher. The front of this piece has one drawer with a working lock and key and the back of the desk has a faux drawer face. This piece measures 36 ½âe long, 21 ½âe wide and stands 30 ½âe tall. FURNITURE WOODS 101 We get a lot of questions on whether or not the furniture we list is comprised of solid wood or veneered. We would like to take this opportunity to give our customers a brief explanation of the construction of antique furniture. Most specialty cuts of wood i.e., tiger maple, birdâe(tm)s eye maple, tiger oak (a.k.a. quarter sawn) crotched mahogany, Cuban mahogany, burled walnut, flame birch, flame cherry, etc., are applied to furniture via veneers. These choice cuts of woods are prohibitively expensive that they very rarely used these in solid wood form. However, t were exceptions to this. When we are fortunate to encounter one of these exceptions, we try to be clear in identifying the solid wood construction. In most cases, these woods are no longer available at any price. If our listing doesnâe(tm)t state that it is made of solid wood, then the furniture was made from a combination of veneers and solid secondary woods. We list the specialty woods in our listings first, as that is the most prominent feature. Please read descriptions carefully and look at all photos. Ask any questions that you may still have. Requests of additional photos are encouraged, as we are limited to the amount of space allocated for photos. We hope this clarifies for you some of the mystique involved with buying antique and vintage furniture. âeoeBUY IT NOWâe OR âeoeBEST OFFERâe We use eBayâe(tm)s âeoeBuy It Nowâe or âeoeBest Offerâe option as our way of selling merchandise to you in the fairest way possible to all. The âeoeBest Offerâe option allows you to barter for a price without having to stand by your computer to the end, just to have someone âe~snipe itâe(tm) away from you at the last minute. You donâe(tm)t have to wait for 7 days either! Once an offer is made and accepted , thatâe(tm)s it, you have purchased the item at the negotiated price. Just remember though, someone could come in and pay the "Buy it Now" price before any negotiations are completed. So bid early to insure your treasure! Like all other sales on eBay, this is a binding contract, so I canâe(tm)t emphasize enough the importance of asking all questions first and looking at all photographs carefully.
