Make no mistake.....This outfit is rare. Admittedly it's not mint or excellent (more like very good condition), but the price has to be weighed by its rarity. The outfit comes from Vogue's 1950 line--the R Group. I like to call it 'one of the Coat Girls.' These outfits had a coat or similar outerwear with a dress and panties underneath. You can see this coat on p. 84 in blue felt in the purple cover Izen/Stover Ginny encyclopedia book. This particular coat does have the red print cotton dress underneath, but it is missing the matching panties. I think this is the same fabric that was used in the 'Sandy' dress of the same year (p. 83). No part of the outfit has a tag, but I am sure it is the Vogue outfit I have described. I have never seen the underdress with this material before. Leave it to Vogue not to waste an inch of fabric! Everything is very good about this outfit except for what seems to be some fading on the left back shoulder and arm--refer to picture # 5. It is either a slight fading or some sort of shelf dust. It is not that noticeable, but it is there. Another small thing is that one of the felt petals--white--on the flower decoration in back is partially gone. And, last, the top eye of the hook 'n eye at the top of the coat has to be tacked down a bit--it has some loose thread there. This auction is for the felt coat, read more
