Last year I found this wonderful antique W. & L. E. Gurley, Troy NY USA- was the property of the NY Central Railroad - I am not an expert but I will try and list what I have ...Included are: 2 tripods - No.'s on tripods are+ #281805 & #26788Box 1: contains transit -Box 2: contains the compass - inside one of the boxes t is a card / in two pieces - very yellow - but it has directions to "balance compass needle"Also, stapled to side of box is a paper which has shipping directions Inside top cover is paper w/ helpful information...Compass glass is is good shape - on plate is the number: 281805Brass transit has nice patina - could use a good cleaning but I didn't to do this - as some people like to do their own cleaning. Level glass is in good condition - again dirty - transit turns easily - a little bit of wear on the black paint in a few areas. On the inside of the long box is the #166Boxes have original paperwork in side - one of the boxes had a repair ticket inside - #885 to N.Y. Central R.R. this repair ticked is dated 9/6/67.... boxes have leather straps but are missing on compass box, hooks are fine. On long box strap came off on one side but is t on the other side - but leather is very worn. Each wood box has metal plate that says "GURLEY Engineering Instruments Troy NY USA"I am not sure how old this is - CONDITION: EVERYTHING read more
