Professionally cleaned, fully restored and verified as authentic, this is vintage WAGNER WARE as it was meant to look!! When this les common 90+ year old #12 cast iron skillet left the Wagner factory, it was NOT encrusted with grease and carbon, was NOT rusty, did NOT reek of rancid oil, and allowing for very routine kitchen use, now once again looks much like it did so many decades ago! This auction is for a GOOD Wagner-marked #12 (Iron Finish) cast iron skillet with Heat Ring, in VERY GOOD overall condition . Established in Sidney, Ohio around 1891 as the Wagner Manufacturing Company, a full quarter century after The Griswold Manufacturing Company, Wagner quickly caught up and became Griswold's fierce competitor, and produced some of the finest cast iron hollow ware ever produced in America. To no one's surprise, after Griswold slipped into bankruptcy in 1957, Wagner controlled 60% of the domestic market for fine quality cast iron cookware. This short running skillet variety was produced from 1915 to around 1920, and was the last skillet variety to display the arc-style "WAGNER" logo. This hard to find old frying pan measures 12.5" rim-to-rim, 13.25" spout-to-spout, 17.375" rim-to-handle tip, at 2.5" deep, with a cooking surface diameter of 10.375", and has an outset Heat Ring diameter of 10.875". This large vintage cooking pan is deeply incised on the exterior bottom with the arc-style Wagner logo " WAGNER ", the horizontal-style address " SIDNEY -O- ", and has the size number " 12 .". Well cast of fine grained iron with only nominal exterior casting roughness, and with some notable casting bumps, dimples or flow marks in evidence on the exterior bottom, this quality-made and fully cleaned vintage iron fry pan has no chips, cracks, pits, bowing or warping, rust, or repairs, sits level on any hard, flat surface, and rings nicely when tapped. Very collectible to be sure, and having a warm, rich dark color, this well-maintained cooking skillet has been pre-seasoned with vegetable shortening for your immediate cooking use or display. Frequent and careful use of this frying skillet has almost totally worn away the manufacturer's milling marks "CARTWHEEL EFFECT" from the polished interior, and despite a few utensil marks and light scratches, has created a cooking surface that is VERY SMOOTH to the touch, and virtually non-stick!
