No reserve auction for Early Weller Dickensware 1 First Line Jardiniere decorated with yellow nasturtiums and green leaves against a deep orange/brown background. The 1 st Line was manufactured from 1897-1898 and featured pottery with dark background colors of brown, blue, gray, or green and slip-painted decoration (usually, flowers). This jardinière is a fine example of Dickens Ware I. It has a glossy, brown background with a simple slip-painted floral arrangement on its surface. It stands apporx 7.5” tall, measures 10 inches wide at its bulbous middle, approx 8 1/4 inches across the opening. It weighs nearly 5.5 pounds. It has impressed markings on the bottom that read as follows: “Dickens Ware,” “Weller,” Overall, it is in absolutely beautiful condition! It does have some flaws as would be expected in utilitarian pottery 114-115 years old. However, the flaws are minor. It possesses no chips or cracks. It is finely crazed inside and outside but not obtrusively so. One or two small glaze imperfections from the time of production. There are several light scratches that can be seen when held at an angle to the light. It was used to hold plants so has staining on the inside from dirt over the years. Please ask questions before bidding and look at photos carefully. I will be glad to send additional photos upon request.
