East German DDR NVA Army General's Ushanka (or "Tschapka") for winter wear. Features 2-piece stamped metal wreath and attached cockade on a red cloth background. The cloth background is tacked onto the front flap with a few hand stitches. Size 56, dated "L", the gray leather sweatband suggests 1973 manufacture. Appears to be unissued. NOW, THE BAD NEWS.......PLEASE NOTE......This lamb's wool exterior shows damage in several locations, my guess would be as a result of beetles during storage. These damaged areas are shown inside the red boxed areas in the photos. There is damage in the following locations: * Front flap, upper right corner as viewed from the front.* Top of both ear flaps* The hat's left sideThe damaged areas are about 3/4 to 1.5 inches long. Buyer pays postage and insurance (if desired). I will calculate actual shipping costs to your ZIP code based on US Postal Service Priority Mail.
