PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A TRUE NO-RESERVE AUCTION, STARTING AT JUST $19.99!! This auction is for a silver rupee of Queen Victoria dated 1840. In 1840, Queen Victoria was just 21 years old and in the third year of her reign, which would last for another 61 years. The British East India Company, with the backing of the British monarchy, government, and military, dominated the rich trade in everything from tea to gemstones with India and its neighbors. That trade was transacted largely with silver coins such as this beautiful rupee, minted by the East India Company in 1840, with the full backing of the British government. Victoria’s youthful portrait was placed on the obverse, both to show respect for the Crown, and to also make sure the foreigners who were to be paid with these coins knew just who they were dealing with. This silver coin weighs 11.55 grams, and is approximately 31mm in diameter. I grade it as being in About Uncirculated condition, with light toning. However, grading is subjective, so please look at the pictures carefully, since the coin photographed is the exact item you will receive. I am offering this pleasing piece at a starting price of just $19.99. Terms and Payment: I accept PayPal only. Within the United States, the coin will ship by First-Class Mail with Insurance & Delivery Confirmation through the U.S. Postal Service. Shipping charges are $5.95 for the first item and $1.00 for each additional item. Please check out my other offers, since I am happy to combine to save on shipping charges on any auctions which are won within any 24 hour time frame. California residents will be charged 9% sales tax. For shipments outside the U.S. we charge $15 for Registered First-Class Mail worldwide. Please do not ask us to lie on the description or valuation of the coin on customs declarations or invoices, because this is illegal, and we don't do it. We will no longer ship to Italy, due to the extremely long (multi-month) delays in getting shipments processed through the Italian Customs bureaucracy.
