AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINAL EAST KIMBERLEY SPEAR-THROWER ... 19th C (?) Port Essington area, North West of Western Australia Softwood (beanwood?), red and white ochres, sinew, resin Length: approx. 104 cm. ... I love this very rare type of woomera - visually subtle and supremely elegant in form. This ex-Sothebys piece is a great example of the type, and comparable to early documented and photographed 19th century examples. It's easy to imagine millenia of fine-tuning of this design to produce (out of softwood) this lithe and resilient anthropomorphic form.T is some loss to the peg and the resin cap supporting it: sinew bindings at both ends are substantially intact .. Shipping worldwide will be $39.00 ... local rates within Australia
