Standard Atlas of

St. Clair County

A Plat Book

Of the

Villages, Cities and Townships of the County...

Published in 1901 by Geo. A. Ogle & Co., of Chicago , IL . 115+ pages of hand colored, lithographic maps, printed on one side of leaf, only and with double paged maps being affixed to paper tongue that is bound in allowing the map to open complete and lie flat across the two pages. With pages being printed only on one side, t are only about 58 pages with maps, and the remainder being blank. Additional maps, patrons reference directory, six pages of portraits of leading citizens (over 100 portraits), and several supplemental texts. 15 x 17 inches in size. Hard bound in half leather and half blind stamped cloth with gilt stamped title on front cover.

Condition (using AB Bookman's Weekly as copied below) grades as Poor to Fair, though condition of contents is overall Very Good or better. Front cover is detached, and rear cover is loosening. Leather over spine and corners is deteriorated; Cloth is rubbed and scuffed and gilt title is a little faded (see photos). Title page has a one by two inch open tear at lower inside corner. Contents show light age toning, occasional light smudges, and an occasional small closed tear from edges. Overall, contents are clean and intact.

This atlas shows highly detailed maps of the railroad system in East St. Louis, as well as the surrounding community. Like most of the Ogle atlases, the names of land owners in the rural areas are noted, though such notations are not made within town and city limits. This is a real treasure for anyone interested in the history of East St. Louis, Railroads and Train systems, or Genealogy.

In addition to text and several pages of photographs of prominent citizens, this atlas contains the following maps (all are one full page unless otherwise noted):
