Bound in a Most Handsome red Moroccan cowhide, the book has French moire silk end leaves, satin bookmarker, hubbed spines and 22 kt gilding on three edges---in FINE---AS NEW condition. [This particular edition has a MOST handsome red cover----see the actual copy below.] Francis Scott Fitzgerald, who lived from 1896-1940, was born in SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA, educated at PRINCETON, served in WORLD WAR I, married glamerous Zelda Sayre of MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA, and settled in PARIS, FRANCE, between the two WORLD WARS. T Fitzgerald was part of the "jet set" that included Ernest Hemingway and Gertrude Stein who told Hem and Fitz they were part of the "lost generation." "The Great Gatsby," written in 1925, is a sensitive and symbolic treatment of themes of contemporary life related with irony and pathos to the legendry of the 'American dream.' Nick Carraway, a young Midwesterner sells bonds in New York, w he lives in West Egg, LONG ISLAND, which is separated from the city by an ash-dump, whose distinctive feature is an oculist's faded billboard with a pair of great staring eyes behind yellow spectacles.
