Easton Press: Sir Walter Scott: Ivanhoe
Easton Press FULL leather top-of-the-line edition of Sir Walter's Scott's "Ivanhoe," Illustrated by Edward A. Wilson, a COLLECTOR'S Edition, one of the 100 GREATEST BOOKS EVER WRITTEN series, published in 1977. Bound in a Most Handsome Moroccan cowhide with a knight in the center of the front board, the book has French moire silk endleaves, hubbed spine, satin book marker, 22 kt gold gilding on three edges---in near FINE condition---except for an attached bookplate. Sir Walter Scott, who lived from 1771-1832, was born in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, the ninth child of a strict Calvinist father who was an Edinburgh solicitor, and an intelligent, literary woman, who was the eldest daughter of a famous professor of medicine. After college, Scott entered his father's law office as an apprentice to "the dry and barren wilderness of forms and conveyances" as he put it. In "Ivanhoe," Scott brought together two favorite heroes of English history: RICHARD, the LION-HEARTED and ROBIN HOOD, and included all the irresistible ingredients readers love in a best-seller: romance and violence, suspense, action, and spectacle. "Ivanhoe" was an immediate sellout when it appeared in 1819. "Ivanhoe" is much more than an adventure story, for it brings a long-gone era to life: the valiant disinherited knight WILFRED OF IVANHOE, the stunningly beautiful LADY ROWENA, unscrupulous KNIGHTS TEMPLARS, warring landlords, worldly priors, simple country-folks; the whole colorful world of medieval England. Scott's illumination of the virtues and vices of the Age of Chivalry's men and women gives his readers a new and humanized way of identifying with the past. "Ivanhoe" was the first novel Scott set south of the Scottish border, and with it he captured the hearts of the English people. FOLKS, this is a MAGNIFICENT book---Out of Print. Shipping in U.S. with media mail is $4.00 or $10.00 priority shipping or actual charges world-wide. Seller will combine multiple purchases for postal savings. Seller accept PayPal or personal checks---held until check clears bank----or immediate shipment with 50 positive feedbacks on Ebay. Good luck and see my other Easton Press and Franklin Library books.
