NO RESERVE AUCTION This is an ebony wood walking stick / cane from 1888 with a 14K gold filled handle. I am not an expert with these matters, so my belief is that this is 14K gold filled due to the year it was made and by my close inspection I notice what appears to be a brass undercoat. This may be plating for all I know, but it is in magnificent shape considering its age. The top of the handle has the following engraving, which appears to be by hand as would have been done at that period: Prest'd By Pittston Cal Club to DBS Cockburn Jan 25 1888 The whole grip appears to be hand chased and in very good shape. Just a couple of slight, hardly noticeable bumps and one very small area that seems to show the brass underlining. It may be visible in the last picture to the left of the jeweler's marks on the rib. The ebony stick itself is in excellent shape as well. Almost straight arrow with just a small chip near the end of the stick. I tried to show it in a picture with a dime for size comparison. The rubber tip is old, but not original to the stick and can be replaced with a new one should you desire to actually use this baby. The walking stick measures 36" in length. This is a no reserve auction and if you check my feedback you will see that I work hard for customer satisfaction.
