When I was packing up the trap for shipment, I noticed a small void going from the side of one of the jaws to the underside. Not sure if it was from the foundary, a file or from an impact. Can't see the mark from looking down on the trap.
Upon further inspection, the "gouge" is about 1/4" wide and about 5/8" inch long and about an 1/8" deep. Can barely notice the start of the mark from looking down on the trap. Dont think it was a trappers mark. Just a small gouge in the jaw from the maker but not sure. Please ask any questions.
I added a picture so you can see the mark. The picture was taken from the side of the jaw. The jaws on these traps are very wide and thick. Please ask if you have any questions. I like to give a very detailed description so there are no surprises. In my opinion the trap is very nice and in great condition.
Just got a statement form a knowledgeable trap collector "The gouge was put there in the factory.
If you push the spring down, push both jaws over the same way. Take the ring and slide it around until it is in the grove. The trapper would do this before he went out. Lot easier to set the trap with cold hands."
