Edward Burak , A legendary American pipe designer, an artist, an art instructor, a purist and a historian. After having displayed and sold his pipes solely out of his midtown Manhattan shop for over forty years, Ed Burak closed his business and retired on February 26th 2009. His highly sought after pipes will be available on this auction site, in limited quantities, every month until they last. As a purist, Burak did not hide minor surface flaws on the briar, such as sandpits, large or small, and natural burls of wood, The pipes were never stained. All connoisseur pipes have a virgin tan natural finish with only some minor Carnauba wax added. Burak used only aged Grecian and Algerian Briar. Most of his pipes are unique and original designs of his own vision. A pipe according to Burak is like a sculpture. The lines, angles, dimensions and gravitational mass all dictate how one should hold and smoke a pipe. The sculpture is not complete until the smoker is added to the equation. "I never sell a pipe. It sells itself" says Burak. Ed Burak's pipes have been displayed at American Craft Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
