EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS / L. RON HUBBARD
in ARGOSY "Tarzan and the Magic Men" / "Mr Luck" - 1936 originals Three original volumes of the classic Argosy pulp magazine from 1936 -- the September 19, September 26, and October 3 issues. "Tarzan and the Magic Men," by Edgar Rice Burroughs, is the cover story of the first of these three issues and is serialized in its entirety in them (ie, parts 1, 2, and 3). It was published as the novel "Tarzan the Magnificent" three years later. The L. Ron Hubbard novelette "Mr Luck" is published in its entirety in the October 3 issue, but note that these three issues are more collectible as a set and are being sold together The September 19 issue has a Very Good cover featuring fine artwork of Tarzan, with a slight smudge, less than typical aging, and just normal edgewear (some chipping and small tears -- the publisher cut the cover larger than the pages, which is typical for these pulps). The spine has a slight tear at the top and a minor dent in the middle. The back cover is Very Good, with some faint markings. The pages are in excellent condition, supple and strong with just a bit of the browning inevitable with age. The September 26 issue has a Very Good cover with a small tear at the bottom and normal edgewear. The back cover is the same, with a bit of darkening from age, and the spine is clean and intact save for slight bumping at the top. The interior is excellent, as with the September 19 issue, with strong, supple pages. A previous owner made (and apparently mostly erased) pencil check marks in the margin of the table of contents. The October 3 issue has a Very Good- cover, with a .75" tear intruding into the righthand edge and some smudging and darkening, plus the usual edgewear, although it's still a handsome cover with striking artwork. The spine is clear and bright, with minor bumping at the bottom and a .5" tear at the top. The back cover has a very large tear that runs from the top of the spine and then diagonally almost all the way across. The table of contents has check marks made in ink, but is otherwise excellent, with strong, supple pages. Each of these pulp magazines measures about 7" wide, 10" tall, and roughly .25" thick (120-150 pages). Sold as a set of three, but each with its own protective display bag and backing board. It's rare for pulp magazines to survive to the present day in this kind of condition, especially a set of three containing a complete Tarzan serial. This set is perfect for any collector of Tarzan or L. Ron Hubbard and makes a great gift! Inquiries Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at:
