EDISON AMBEROLA PHONOGRAPH MODEL 50 In 1908 Edison introduced his new cylinder format, first called "Amberol Record" what became later the famous ,,Blue Amberol". With his new phonographs the "Amberola-Series" Edison eliminated definitively the outside horn. The "Amberola-Phonographs", produced first in 1911, were available in a wide range of different models. The last "Edison Amberola Phonograph" leaves the manufactory at West Orange in October 1929. The Amberola 50 was the big brother of the smaller Amberola 30 players, and was in the line to the end of the cylinder era, incorporating the best of what was learned in the past. The "Amberola 50" was produced from 1915 to 1929. Based on the name plate (see photo) containing a 1917 patent, this unit was produced after that patent date. It is a table model finished in fine mahogany or Oak. The double spring motor is playing up to five cylinders before re-winding. The "Amberola 50" is rather small, but nevertheless one of the finest phonographs, it sounds loud and clear. This Edison Amberola 50 is in good condition with very few markings. We don't know if the grill cloth is original. The mahogany finish is original. The decal of Edison on the inside of the lid is in very good condition. The machine plays well and the motor is very quiet. The machine measures 20 inches by 15 inches. and is 15 ½ inches. tall. The serial number is 42120. The reproducer is is in excellent condition playing loud and clear. This is a wonderful example of this Edison machine. This machine is sold as-is with no warranty.
