This Edison Home Model A SERIAL NUMBER H32066 has the most recent patent date of May 31, 1898. It was one of the first phonographs for home use, being introduced for sale originally in December of 1896 and were manufactured until 1901. This early style Model A is also known as the 'Suitcase' Home Model because of its four suitcase style clamps, enabling the phonograph to be carried by its lid handle. The 'suitcase' Home, is the only model to have its name on the lid rather than the lower case, as in the later models. This plays the two minute cylinders. This was handed down to a family member and I am selling it for them. Everthing on the outside is in excellent shape except for a small nick on the back corner of the wood base that is barely noticeable. The oak case has original finish and decal on the cover. As for the parts on the model everything seems to be intact. The device does run but when a cylinder is placed on it and the needle is dropped down to play it the device slows and eventually stalls. Not sure if this is a minor or major deal. So if you are buying this be aware that some work will have to be done on it to get it to play the 8 cylinders that are included. I do not know how much or how little work needs to be done but those of you experts on these antiques will have a better idea I'm sure. Phonograph is bought as is. Buyer pays all shipping costs. Insurance is optional. Pay pal is preferred for this transaction but cashiers check or money order will be accepted. Once check clears item will be sent within 3 business days.
