For this special item, we will absorb S&H costs and ship by what we deem to be the best method for Recordings:FREE USPS INSURED MEDIA MAILADDED DESCRIPTION and RECORDING HISTORY: In a perhaps unintentional salute to the history of Thomas Edison's big rival form of sound recordings - 78 rpm records - on the 78 th Anniversary of initial sales of Edison's original Menlo Park, New Jersey invention turned office dictating machine the "Tinfoil Phonograph", the modern Thomas Edison Industries in West Orange NJ produced a special, limited edition ten-inch Long-Playing recording which contained a half-dozen of the finest operatic songs and arias in their earliest vocal recordings.We said "Miniature LP" in our first paragraph because a few years back, we saw an eBay listing with that description and were excited to see the offering. It piqued our interest, because when it introduced its "Modern LP" records in the late 1940s, Columbia Records very briefly put a number of single popular recordings out on SEVEN-INCH long-play records which played at 33-1/3 RPM, which were then in direct competition with RCA Victor's 7-Inch popular 45 RPM records. The Columbia 7" offerings ran out very quickly, not really enough for a decent catalog. If you're interested, we'll continue this dissertation below.But for now, back to this fascinating, historical booklet and astounding survivor of paper ephemera! A stack of these were rescued from the Thomas A. Edison Industries buildings in West Orange in the 1970s, just before those buildings were imploded by the Loizeaux family of Controlled Demolition, Inc. Apparently, the original publication printers made many more copies than did the makers of the 10" LP recordings and the colorful protective outer sleeves which protected them. As a result, the records themselves are infinitely rarer than the actual printed inserts, and the records rarely see the light of day or collectors' covetous gaze! See more of this history continued below.But for now, on to details about this rare booklet! 8 pages, 67" by 9" printed on heavy linen-like stock, it is titled "Edison Originals 1878-1956 - 78 th Anniversary". Centered between these words is an oval printed in reverse with a familiar side-view of Mr. Edison's head and shoulder and his quote "I Trust you for progress", with his signature.
