COLETTE and CHILD by EDNA HIBELROYAL DOULTON 1973 Royal Doulton plate entitled COLETTE and CHILD, first in a series based on artwork by Edna Hibel portraying a Mother and Child from selected countries around the world. This plate was produced in 1973 in England by ROYAL DOULTON in a Limited Edition of just 15,000 plates. Fine Bone China, rimmed with gold, diameter approximately 8 1/4 inches (21 cm). The plate is in MINT CONDITION -- no chips, cracks, repairs or other damage. Original box included. (Box shows minimal shelf wear, but it is pushing 40 years old!) This is old dealer stock, never previously displayed or sold at retail. This is a BLOW-OUT Price! Definitely PRICED TO SELL!Edna Hibel is one of the most respected artists of our time. From 1934 to 1939, she studied at the prestigious Boston Museum of Fine Art, and, at age 22, became the youngest artist ever to exhibit in a major American museum. She has had major exhibitions all over the world, and has received commissions that include a painting for the National Archives in Washington and a painting commemorating the 200th anniversary of the White House. In 2001, she received the Leonardo da Vinci award, one of the most prestigious in the world of art, presented to an outstanding world artist just once every three years. The winner is selected by a jury of distinguished art critics from five continents, members of the World Council. Ms. Hibel was chosen in part for the outstanding quality of her art, and in part for her innovations in artistic methods (especially in original stone lithography and porcelain) and her contribution to art education.
