Original E.S. Curtis Bat Wing frame, also known as "the Curtis frame" by collectors of his photographs. Unfortunately, the original print (I'm assuming a Curt-tone) "HOMEWARD", which it houses, is completely destroyed. This print was also known as HOMEWARD BOUND, and depicts Indians in a canoe silhouetted against the sunset of Puget Sound. This frame was made for an 11x14 print (glass opening measures 10&1/2"x13&1/2"). The frame is approximately 3" wide and 1&3/4" deep (off the wall). Overall dimensions are approximately 18&1/2" x 15&1/2". The finish is dark brown with the remnants of an antiqued gold finish on its batwing corners. Please look at my pictures carefully to determine the condition of the frame : I have photographed pretty much all the front-facing damage (scrapes and cracks) - the lion's share of which are found at the BOTTOM corners. PLEASE NOTE THE TINY HOLE PRESENT IN THE FRAME WHICH CAN BE SEEN IN MY LAST PICTURE. THE HOLE GOES ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE ENTIRE FRAME AND MEASURES 3/32" IN DIAMETER. The print, as I said before, is not even to be considered in this auction, as it is completely ruined, but the good thing is that Curtis' signature in gold is still clearly visible, which doesn't help the print, but I would think helps to legitimize the frame. Edward Sheriff Curtis was famous for his photographs of the North American Indian. He began his career in the early 1900s and had studios in Seattle, Washington and later Los Angeles, California, w he moved in 1920. Curt-tones and other photographs which were made in Los Angeles were supposedly all marked with an "LA" under the signature. I can't see it under this signature, so perhaps this frame dates back to his Seattle days. If you have any questions, fire away, and I'll respond as soon as possible - and that's usually in the early morning or evenings. THANKS for taking a look! NOTE: I do not package up my items for shipment until the auction is over - this lets me refer to the actual item when and if I'm asked questions about it during the auction (God forbid I should have to rely solely on my memory). So, although I may not be able to give you the exact shipping cost during the auction, this is by no means an attempt to avoid doing so - rest assured - I ONLY CHARGE ACTUAL SHIPPING AND INSURANCE COSTS. eBay forced me to plug in a weight when I listed this item, so be aware that the shipping cost given you in this listing is a CLOSE APPROXIMATION. Buyers pay all shipping costs: Items within the US will be shipped Priority Mail and Insurance is REQUIRED. Personal Checks will be held until they clear the bank, of course. Foreign Shipments will be sent according to the Buyer's preference, but please note I do not falsify Customs Forms under any circumstances. All Foreign Buyers must pay with PayPal, and ALL Payments must be received within 7 days of the listing's end. I reserve the right to refuse bids from users with Private Feedback, numerous bad feedbacks and/or numerous bid retractions without prior approval.
