Wheeler, Redfield, Washington D.C., 1925, n.p.'Early Morning Sunlight, Spring' is one of several spring scenes that Redfield depicted at Point Pleasant, Pennsylvania, where he had maintained a studio. Point Pleasant is located a short distance north of the artist's residence at Center Bridge, Pennsylvania. Although a rare few spring scenes were painted earlier, the artist began to favor spring scenes in the late teens. This scene was executed near River Road, which parallels the Delaware Canal and River. The canal is to the viewer's left and the river is depicted toward the center. Although Redfield was particularly noted for his snow scenes, his spring scenes also became particularly prized. The technique used, with very thick impasto, is typical.
