The subtle hues of a warm sunrise and rays as brilliant as the sun at setting are the exceptionally uncompromising traits of the unique and rare amber crystals within this 17" necklace of the 1890's Czech lands of Bohemia, old world Europe. Shades of the old lead crystal glass can differ dramatically according to the type and amount of tinctures added at extreme high melting of the fine silica sand. The amounts of iron sulfides and lithium tinctures were measured precisely in the creation of these rare amber crystals composing the late 1800's pendant necklace. The delicate chain of 17" is securely spring clasped and intersected at front third section with a series of ribbon braided segments and light and dark shades of amber multi faceted lead crystals detailed in gold platter crowns. Center focus of necklace is the magnificent braid-edged flawless pendant. Of hand blown Bohemian lead glass, the pendant is 1.25" in total vertical length, 1 1/8" horizontally and is a generous 1/2" in depth. Exquisite in facets, it is table cut at at back and old world prism cut at front in an impeccable square of 7/8". Its unusual depth, beveled edges and inner ring setting were some of the most difficult tasks a gem cutter and silversmith undertook in this period with somewhat primitive tools (by today's standards) and lack of proper lighting ... often working by oil lamp or available sunlight. Detail also includes its satin finished braided border ... finely soldered and curving about the square's edges in one continuous piece without so much as a seam! The crystal of the pendant is not ordinary, but rather one of the most unique in shape, facet detail and color of its period. This particular type of crystal was noted for its glow as soft as a summer's dawn sky and as subtly brilliant as a winter's sun setting. It's brilliance is further enhanced by its attachment at center point of the 17" necklace with its accent of dusted gold segments twisted in braid of intricate ribs. Bail is hallmarked with corresponding marks placing the item to the later 1800's (c. 1880-1890) of the Austrian Hungarian Empire of which Czech Bohemian was a major province. Weight of necklace is 16 grams. Astonishingly classic with a beauty difficult to convey ~ the amber hue facets fade into the other in perfect orchestration ... much like the soft quiet of a sunset framing windows of winter. Classically elegant with black and summer white. An exceptional item ... difficult to photo and priced far below market value. From Prague with love!
