This is a large face jug made by one of the oldest living Georgia folk potters and one of the all-time greats in folk pottery history. Edwin Meaders. He is well known for his roosters but not as famous for his face jugs. They are quite rare and only come up for sale a couple times per year and usually at an auction house. Edwin is in his 90s and is not potting much anymore due to health reasons I understand so this face jug was likely one of his last. He is also the brother of pottery great Lanier Meaders. The face jug measures approximately 8.5 inches tall and 7.5 inches wide. It is signed by Edwin "Edwin Meaders 5-15-09. This jug is of a rare small size and I have only seen a few (less than 5) in this size. 11-12 inches is much more common. It also has green eyes instead of the more typical blue. The jug's condition is a s purchased from Edwin in 2009 (day of N Georgia Pottery festival that year) with no chips or damage. The are a few spots and imperfections in the glaze but they are small and insignificant. This piece is imperfect as are most folk pottery pieces but is in excellent condition with no damage or imperfections not formed in the firing. This is a rare face jug as scanning through past auction prices acknowledges $1,000-5,000 is often the selling price for an Edwin Meaders face jug. I am offering it below this price read more
