A Superbly Decorated Minton Cream or Sugar Tureen and Stand C1840s Item description The tureen of 'Newcastle pierced' shape with moulded trellis work and panels of flowers, the trellis picked out in red and the finely painted flowers within rococo taste cartouches with gold details etc, the lid with a twig handle and the stand with pierced trellis work decorated to match. Marks Tureen: Base with 8117 in red. Stand: Reverse with 8117 in puce. Condition Tureen: Cracked around the bowl and middle section. The cracks spiral up to the rim but are less noticeable than the crack to the middle section. The inside of the bowl with cracks as shown. A repair to the centre (see photo 3 and 9). Lid: No damage or restoration. Stand: No damage or restoration. Although damaged the tureen is rather sumptiously decorated and displays well. Measurements Total height, approx 19.5cm Please see Geoffrey Godden's book, Minton Porcelains of the First Period 1793-1850 pl. 39-43 for examples of the same shape and decoration.
