Elegance Vtg Fashion Mag 1965 Fabric Swatch Vogue Pattn Description: Elegance Paris Couture and International Fashion Collection1965 Spring-Summer Swatched Edition This fabulous Elegance International French Magazine or Catalog actually has hand set fabric swatches for all the fashions inside. It's like a European couture Vogue Pattern Book. One page has quality fashion photos of designer clothing. The opposite page has drawings and details of Vogue sewing patterns similar to the design along with detailed descriptions of fabric and buttons. The fabric swatches, 1 1/2" by 1" are of the actual colors and fabrics the designer chose for the clothing, along with some suggestions of other colors or fabrics. The designer fashion descriptions are in French, English and German. All other descriptions, the Vogue patterns, the fabric, the accessories are all in English. This magazine was intended for serious dressmakers. All items are priced and were available through mail order. Quoting from the inserted letter from Elysee Fabrics found in this catalog,"In receiving the Elegance Swatched Dressmaker Edition you have joined the elite of European dressmakers. These professionals steeped in the tradition of Haute Couture and Continental couturier fabrics, use the Elysee Collection regularly in serving their select clientele."The first 6 pages and the last 9 pages of heavier paper are all fabric swatches showing other popular colors and fabrics. T are samples of mesh weave wool blended with mohair, knitted acetate, new rayon, wool crepe, rice weave cotton, silk twill and serge, velveteen, acetate satin, gabardine and many other fabrics. 3 pages are of black and grey swatches of "suiting" fabrics of every kind. This magazine features many of the designers and photographers seen in the Vogue fashion magazines of the time. The Vogue Pattern Books often had a full page ad for the "Elegance-The Elysee Fabrics Folio". The advertisement calls it the "world's only swatched full-season fashion review". Some of the designers in this issue are Jeanne Lanvin, Jean Patou, Madeleine de Rauch, Castillo, Webe, Chloe, Jacques Griffe. T are several photos by Helmut Newton. Some of the other photographers credited are Rolf Lutz, Pat Faure and Frank Horvat. The 11" by 13" catalog/magazine is about 225 pages, and from cover to cover filled with European and American haute couture and quality fashions. T is no other advertsing in this catalog other than the back cover. This catalog was expensive at $5 in 1965 and therfore not widely distributed. You won't find these vintage issues very often. Elegance Fabrics is still in business and still publishes swatched catalogs twice a year. The current price is $200! This vintage catalog is in good condition. I found this and several others in the estate of an accomplished European seamstress. She continued as a seamstress after moving to the states and continued to subscribe to European fashion publications. I'm sure she looked thru this issue many times, the edges are worn, and the cover has a crease in the lower corner. T is a small address stamp and t I didn't see any writing or major issues.
