Exquisite 19th Century French silver wine taster or tastevin used by sommeliers and cellar masters to examine wine for color, clarity and quality. This classic sterling taster features an unusual handle formed by the heads of two serpents. It measures 2 1/4" in diameter and is in wonderful, undamaged condition. It is marked with the French control mark of Minerva used in the last half of the 19th century for 950/1000 standard silver. Please email with any questions and bid with confidence as our items are guaranteed as represented. Please see our current listings for other 19th century sterling pieces fresh from a wonderful Boston North Shore estate. As requested I weighed this piece. It weighs 31.8 grams or 1.12 ounces. Also I looped the wine taster again and t is a lozenge with a maker's mark however it is illegible. That is the mark that is pictured in the fifth photo. The Minerva mark is on both the cup and the handle.
