You're bidding on this antique cabinet photo of an elegant African American woman. T is ornate embossing on the mat and the embossing at the lower right corner indicates the image was taken by "Jungermann" of Columbus, Ga. Because every picture tells a story, I'm guessing this is the photo of a woman about to be married and she is also a young lady who enjoys her jewelry. She is wearing a large dark colored bow in her hair that features a rhinestone or other stone pin that adorns the bow. Her tiny earrings appear to be pierced and she wears a decorative pin at the neck of her collar. Did she make her own dress? We think so. The puffy sleeves aren't exactly a match and the lace on the collar is high on one side. The pintucking is beautiful though, and the lace along the chest matches that at the neck. Perhaps she put on her best to have her photo made before becoming a wife and mother? We'll never know, but a great story, nonetheless! We've decided this elegant young woman was soft spoken and genteel. Of course, that's our story, and no one knows for sure, but either way, a wonderful photo. Condition: Old photo! Beautifully embossed mat shows aging and stains (see pic). We are not familiar enough with antiques to properly describe all flaws. Please email if you have any questions.
