Half Dolls or Pincushion Dolls were made by several different German porcelain factories in the first quarter of this century. These figurines became popular in the 1920âe(tm)s and were used in a variety of entertaining and creative fashions: attaching them to brushes, pincushions, powder puffs, perfume bottles, and teapot lids. Also, when mounted with a body the half-dolls would be used as a sewing introduction aid for young girls. The half-dolls are made of porcelain and hand painted. They typically represent beautiful women, although t are some men and children figures. Flappers were popular molds and they would have colorful costumes and accessories, while other half-dolls are simply nude. Other unique and desirable characteristics include dolls with extended arms, dolls holding flowers, purses, hair brushes, mirrors and dolls ornamented in painted jewelry.
