Check out my other items !Hello, and thank you for looking at my auction.Wonderful pair of George and Martha Washington by Emma Clear, they date to the 40's. This is such a great piece of doll history. Today, known mostly for her stunning parian and china head lady reproductions, Emma Clear decided to have original dolls created by the well known artist Martha Oathe. Martha studied portraits of George and Martha to create the molds. She copied Emma Clear's own hands for Martha's hands and Papa Clear's hands for George's hands. Martha has a typical cloth doll body but George does not sit...he's quite stiff with a wire armature. His hands were designed so he could put his hand on the back of Martha's chair and she could be sitting on a chair. Clothing is sewn in place with lots of details --darling buttons, gold braid, Martha has a lovely shawl that matches the flounce of her overskirt. they are costumed as a pair with similar fabrics....so nice! Plus, the bisque is perfect perfect heads, legs, and arms on both Geaorge and Martha. Just look at Martha's hands! Painting is exquisite, notice flowers on Martha's bonnet. George is so handsome and dignified...you will love this pair. No damage or repairs to the bisque. The only flaws to this pair are minor imperfections to the costumes-- as you would expect with fabrics that have so much
