RARE EMPIRE PERIOD MARBLE TOP COMMODE This offering is for a beautiful Empire period marble top commode in crotched mahogany and walnut. It is equipped with a beveled marble top, marble backsplash, Ogee serpentine top drawer, double door base cabinet with full interior, original lock and finish and finely detailed scalloped front and side moldings. This is a rare piece that we don’t see many of. It is 30” long, 18” wide and 30” tall at its marble top and 34” tall at the top of the backsplash. FURNITURE WOODS 101 We get a lot of questions on whether or not the furniture we list is comprised of solid wood or veneered. We would like to take this opportunity to give our customers a brief explanation of the construction of antique furniture. Most specialty cuts of wood i.e., tiger maple, bird’s eye maple, tiger oak (a.k.a. quarter sawn) crotched mahogany, Cuban mahogany, burled walnut, flame birch, flame cherry, etc., are applied to furniture via veneers. These choice cuts of woods were prohibitively expensive and rarely used in their solid wood form. However, t were exceptions to this. When we are fortunate enough to encounter one of these exceptions, we try to be clear in identifying the solid wood construction. In some cases, these woods are no longer available at any price. If our listing doesn’t state that it is made of solid wood, then the furniture was made from a combination of veneers and solid secondary woods. We list the specialty woods in our listings first, as that is the most prominent feature. Please read descriptions carefully and look at all photos. Ask any questions that you may still have. Requests of additional photos are encouraged. We hope this clarifies for you some of the mystique involved with buying antique and vintage furniture. We are professional buyers. We look at things in an entirely different light than the average retail consumer. Our interpretation of condition might be different than yours. Our listed prices reflect the condition of the item. We usually provide photos of all angles for your inspection. Please LOOK at all photos carefully. We deal in high volume and occasionally we might miss something in our listings. Nothing is ever intentional. If something doesn’t seem right, i.e. dimensions, photos, etc., please ask and/or bring it to our attention. We are happy to clarify any questions you might have or provide you with further details or photos. Requests for additional photos are not a problem and recommended. We are not experts in all fields covered by our sales, however, we do have over 30 years experience. Ask all questions prior to bidding! We will be delighted to speak with you over the telephone to answer any questions you might have. No question is ever too small! We will do our absolute best to address your concerns. We represent items to the best of our ability and in absolute good faith . Take your time! Please consult with your “dealer” friend, acquaintance, neighbor, etc. before you buy, as we have a no return policy. If you are unsure, please don’t bid.
