Japanese Antique Hand Painted Hanging Scroll SANSUI Tomioka Tessai (1837-1924) was the pseudonym for a painter and calligrapher in Meiji period Japan. He is regarded as the last major artist in the Bunjinga tradition and one of the first major artists of the Nihonga style. His real name was Tomioka Yusuke, which he later changed to Tomioka Hyakuren. Material = Silk Condition = Good (Stain) Roller Ends = Bone There is a document box of authenticity by Tomioka Tessai.Also there is a document wooden plate of authenticity by Tajika Chikuson in 1921. Tajika Chikuson (1864-1922) He was born in Takeda of Oita Pref.He studied painting with Fuchino Keisen .After, he studied painting with Tanomura Chokunyu. He became the famous artist of Kyoto Nanga with Ikeda Keisen and Yamada Kaido .
