Founded in Turin, Italy in 1919, the Lenci company is one of the famous Italian icons of this century. Initially involved in the production of hand painted and stuffed dolls, which became very popular between 1925 and 1927, Lenci quickly became synonymous of the best Italian craftsmanship in his field, leading the market at least until World War II. The company did not start pottery production until 1928: its distinctive style mixed early 1900 Turin touches with German-Hungarian taste brought in by the founder's wife Helen König Scavini. Favorite subjects among the figurines: the celebrated girls, animals, angels and a variety of other holy subjects. This radiant Lenci ceramic Madonna and child figural depicts the Virgin Mary / Madonna holding the baby Jesus. She is looking at her precious child as he holds his arms outstretched. She and her child both show love and affection which is the most priceless and breathtaking sight. This very captivating Italian piece is so big it should be called a statue. The Madonna's robe is done in a brilliant pastel blue color with little handpainted floral accents. This striking lady is holding a rosebud in one hand, and her robe trails down past her feet. She and her baby both have striking blue eyes. This precious sculpture made in Italy is outstanding! You will be captivated by this Art Deco style show piece and may pass it down as a family heirloom for many generations of relatives to love and enjoy for many years to come. The bottom is marked "Lenci Made In Italy. There is a paper label that reads: CR04 and what looks like a symbol of a circle with a line through it (artist's mark), and what looks like impressed initials OM. This piece has a very interesting history and provenence. She comes from the luxury home of the Heinz widow (Heinz company), and was purchased in the 1970's by the present owner whom I am selling this piece for. I was told Mrs. Heinz had crates full of Lenci pieces that were all shipped to America. Most of the crates were unopened until the Estate sale in the 1970's!! This figure measures approximately 20 inches high and is very large! The only damage that can be seen is that her right arm was re-attached below the elbow (see photos). It is not as terrible as it sounds and doesn't take away from this striking work of art. WE SHIP WORLDWIDE PAYPAL PAYMENTS PREFERRED. If you have any questions please email me and I will be glad to answer you very quickly. Thanks and Good Luck (Buona Fortuna)
