This outstandingly beautiful sculpture of the young eros / cupid is a signed piece by the world renown French artist Auguste Moreau (1822-1901) and also bares a Paris France Foundry Mark to the base. Moreau's work is highly sought after as he captures his subjects in such well defined and often dramatic pose. This piece is no exception, the face of Eros is one of the most beautiful I have seen, his young body so anatomically perfect making the proportions of entire piece correct. August Moreau was a French student of Mathurin Moreau and regularly exhibited in the Salons. Bronzes by the Auguste Moreau and other members of his talented artistic family are beautifully rendered examples of the Art Nouveau style from turn-of-the-century France.
