Two volumes; very thick, large 8vos, deep forest green cloth with gilt titles on spine and raised blind seals to blind ruled front boards; xxvi, 827pp & xviii, 767pp, each includes appendices and general indices (general, manuscripts, incipits), colophons. First editions, first printings, REVIEW COPIES (with slip attached to the front paste-down of Volume III): these two volumes were issued as a set of the newest volumes in the ongoing series begun in 1923 and completed in 1958 Over thirty-five years in the writing and still the unmatched authority in the field, this magisterial history deals with all forms of occult arts and sciences, superstitions, and folklore. One of the most important works on arcane and esoteric studies published anywhere. Issued in the ‘History of Science Society Publications, New Series IV.’ Both volumes are tight internally clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting.
