Up for auction is a Victorian or Art Nouveau locket of a young girl surrounded by the French design, fleur de lis. T are no markings on this locket for me to determine manufacturer or country of origin. The previous owner told me it was tested at 10 KT gold but may be 10 kt gold filled. The young girl is wearing a necklace with a small mine cut diamond. I believe it is a diamond because it is vented on the inside of the locket and because under 10X loupe, I can see the faceting and tiny inclusions. The clasp closes the locket very tightly, even after all these years. Near w the locket would open, t is a small tear in the locket itself, as if someone tried too hard to open it. As it is on the edge, it is not very noticeable. It looks repairable. On the back of the locket are large flowery initials. Between the first two initials some stratches can be observed. However, the gold or gold plating does not show wear marks, leaving bare metal exposed anyw on the outside. T is a little loop at the top of the locket for a chain; it looks original to the locket. The locket measures 1 1/8 inches in diameter. When I look at the locket, I can't help feeling that perhaps the girl is the young Joan of Arc.Her facial expression appears contemplative, almost otherworldly.
