RARE ALKALINE GLAZE POTTERY JUG I am fortunate enough to reside in a part of Alabama that has a rich and historic past of producing fine pottery from its infancy in the early 19th century. T are settlements within 10 miles from me that date back to the founding of our country. I have been in several 18th century log homes in Clebourne, Randolph and Chambers counties. This area is a "hot bed" for really nice ooold stuff!! With that in mind, I have come across and sold some fine pottery that I have accumulated over the years and many pieces from Rock Mills. Most collectors of southern pottery have heard of "Rock Mills" and believe me, I know of some folks that have collections to die for!! It appears that t was a good source of fine clay in the area and many potters established to produce utilitarian ware. Unfortunate for me, yet good for you, is the simple fact that I must turn nearly everything that I buy! Case in point, this truly fine alkaline glazed jug found in this area a few months back that has been a proud addition to my modest collection. Is it a Rock Mills piece? I truly can't answer that and if you ask anyone in this area who has dealt with pottery and forgotten more than I will ever know, you will most likely get the same response.
