On offer a rather unusual, and rarely offered £1 banknote from Brixton, an area of South London. The note forms part of the current edition and is in perfect, uncirculated condition. Brixton Pounds are one of 4 "Alternative" pounds that circulate in England, and the only one to be London specific. All are of use only within the area stated. These new second edition notes have no expiry date, and are top quality items, with 9 seperate security features, metallic holograms, micro-printing etc. and the series takes are very modern approach to design and themes, with this one adding examples of local contemporary graffiti. An interesting experiment is afoot in 4 UK regions, and in dozens of other locations worldwide, with Brixton being the the UK's first urban-city attempt. The idea seems simple and logical enough.To help small, independent shops, and promote more local economic growth and trade, one swops ones regular UK banknotes for Brixton pounds at local participating shops, or accepts them as change. It seems an easy way to help the local economy, as one only swops cash that was intended to be spent locally anyway, so it doesnt cost you anything to participate.
