This is a stunning cobalt blue Victorian English poison bottle dating from the 1880s. This hexagonal shaped bottle has embossed ribs on either side of NOT TO BE TAKEN. Cobalt blue glass was often the choice for poison bottles, and the embossed letters and ribbing were a safety precaution, helping to identify it as a poison bottle by feel in poorly lit Victorian houses. Early bottle molds were not capable of making a complete bottle in one piece, and all English bottles of this date have a lip that was applied separately by hand. 'Applied Lips' or 'laid-on lips' like these are easily identified by the lack of mold seam in the neck and the uneven, often runny, appearance. This poisons was one of our huge collection of bottles painstakingly put together over 30 years of collecting and digging various Victorian rubbish dumps. This poison measures 6" high and is in sparkling condition with no chips or cracks, it would look spectacular displayed in a window! We pride ourselves on our customer service and pack with extreme care, so please email if you have any questions and check out our feedback. We do not stop auctions early or use Buy It Now. We have set a very conservative starting bid and have not wasted time with a hidden reserve, so happy bidding!
