Thisis a very scarce early English folding dagger, knife, dirk. It measures 9 1/4" overall - is 5" folded with a 4 1/4" blade. This pre-civil war knife was made and is marked by "John Brown & Co., Columbia Works" with " W (crown) R" mark. John Brown & Co. is listed as being in business ca. 1830 - 1839. It has German silver guard, pommel and shield in mother of pearl handles. MOP handles are mounted as two pieces per side, held in place by small German silver pins. The knife has brass bolsters on the interior. The small button on the side is to release the blade. The blade is fine and unsharpened with no pitting but some minor discoloration. The tip is very slightly blunted and could be corrected but we DID NOT want to make that correction. The blade locks in place when open.
