English Meteorite Port/Starboard Ship Lamp Early 20th C

Double your traffic. You are bidding on an original port or starboard ships lamp made by the Meteorite Company of England. We believe this to be an early 20th C. electric lamp which is made of copper & still has its original bi-color glass shade. At some point an attempt was made to rewire this lamp with modern sockets & wiring but the conversion was never completed. An early light socket with remnants of the original wiring was found on the inside of the lamp but it is no longer attached to the base & we are not positive that it is original to the lamp. There are a number of copper plates attached to this lamp, the lid has one that simply states "Trawler". The front has two plates, one below the top edge which says "Meteorite C21036 & one on the bottom edge which has the Patent information. This is a large lamp, it weighs almost 5 kilos & measures almost 13" high by 13 1/2" across The lamp is in fair original condition consistent with its age. No attempt was made to polish the lamp other than cleaning some of the dirt & corrosion with a damp cloth. Some of the metal frame holding the glass is rusted & damaged & the glass has some scratches throughout. The lid is also cracked on the back edge near the hinge. As we have mentioned earlier, the glass is bi-colored, blue on one side & clear on the other. This effect is achieved by the addition of a blue glass insert on the inside of the lamp. Despite these issues, the lamp still looks & displays well. It would be well worth restoring or simply leaving it in its original battle scared condition. The piece is being sold as is.
