George Augustus Frederick Fitzclarence (1794-1842). He was the First Earl of Munster, and the eldest illegitimate son of King William IV by long time mistress Dorothy Jordan. He was a Napoleonic War general and prisoner of war, champion of oriental studies, president of the Asiatic Society, and a great influence on his father, King William IV. He died tragically, a suicide by gunshot wound, at the age of 48. The title Earl of Munster was created twice in English peerage, once in 1789 for Prince William, the third son of King George III, later King William IV. The title merged with the crown when he became King. The second creation came in 1831 for his son, George Augustus Frederick Fitzclarence. Since the title had ceased to exist both were known as the First Earl of Munster. His signature on a Free Franked address panel, clearly dated and postmarked in 1837.
