English solid oak fusee timepiece by Benson. The heavy and substantial movement is chain driven fusee and has been cleaned and serviced, the back plate is engraved with J. W. BENSON LUDGATE HILL LONDON serial number 11179. The case is solid oak with good even colour and no blemishes. The 5.5inch diameter silvered dial has engraved and black waxed roman chapters with J W BENSON LONDON engraved under the XII, heavy cast brass bezel, 5mm thick bevelled glass and blued steel spade hands. Benson has had along and successful history going back to around 1750 and is well known for its quality pocket watches and clocks. James W. Benson died in 1880 & his sons took over until they gave control of the company to Mr Douglas Benson, James Bensons grandson, in 1920. The clock is in very good condition.
