English Sterling Art Deco Centerpiece, Mappin & Webb c1925 Description Hallmarks for London Assay, date letter 1925-1926, Lion Passant for English Sterling, makers mark for Mappin & Webb (also stamped Mappin & Webb on the underside base) Exceptionally fine pierce work accentuated by raised, flowing, scrolling acanthus leaves Two Blank cartouches in the form of winged figure A wide, banded circular foot supporting a magnificant oval center, curved, flowing upward, elegantly terminating with curling acanthus This large centerpiece measures 12 3/8 inches across, stands 4 1/4 inches tall and measures 7 inches from front to back Total weight on my postal scale is a very sturdy 17.4 ounces Fantastic, soft, silky silver patina; a surface condition that advanced collectors enjoy finding on well-cared-for pieces nearing 100 years of age Remarkably perfect, undiminished, crisp, hand-chased masterfully executed detail Rare & extraordinary appearance, quality and shape Near mint condition with no monograms, removals, repairs or damage of any kind light tarnish English Sterling Reading glasses (London, c1760) not included in this Auction, for size comparison onlyYou deserve to own the Best Sterling!
