Up for auction we are offering an incredible find for collectors of English Sterling Silver Butterfly wing jewelry or collectors of unique compacts.

We are offering a beautiful sterling compact. The hinged lid of the compact is a gorgeous iridescent butterfly wing encased in sterling and under convex glass. T is a small mirror under the compact lid.

Inside the compact pendant is the original puff!

The total measurement of the compact pendant is 1 5/8 inches in diameter; the compact lid is 1 1/8 inches in diameter.

The inside of the compact has the following marks. First t is an anchor, followed by a lion figure, which is followed by a y in a cartouche. Above these marks are the initials S.M.L. Well below this information, close to the edge, is the number 8. According to my reference book, Collectible Silver Jewelry, Identification and Value Guide by F. Rezazadeh, the lion, anchor, and letter within a cartouche, indicates this piece is from Birmingham. The style of the cartouche and the font of the letter indicates this piece to be from 1900-1924, or from 1925-1949. It's a little hard to narrow it down, since the cartouche and font for these two time periods are quite similar.

This wonderful collectible piece is in near excellent antique/vintage condition. The hinge and the closure on the compact both work perfectly. The convex glass is clear with no scratches. T are no dings to the silver on the front and only a couple very minor dings to the silver on the back.
