Classic, wide oval form. Banded and raised, gadrooned rim. Large, well cast acanthus cap vine form handle. Turned up at ends. Most attractive shell form join. Secured to interior wall of the sauce boat. A visually pleasing and unique design feature, specific to earlier Georgian designs. Smooth finish. Supported beautifully upon large, ruffled shell cap, scroll and shell feet. Monogrammed "D". This elegant, 18th century English sterling silver shell footed sauce boat is 7 3/4 inches long and 5 inches tall. Exceptionally thick, heavy guage sterling construction, weighs 11 ounces. In good condition. Rich, lustreous sterling patina throughout. Sits perfectly steady on table. Few pin head size indents. Two creases, one visible in images, to right of monogramm. Second, smaller on other side. Compression lines to interior, two feet, one shows bit pushed in around exterior lower shell "join". Hallmarks under base quite rubbed, as shown.
